US imports of steel came down in November after reaching their highest level of 2013 in October, according to preliminary import data from the US Census Bureau. Imports of carbon, alloy and stainless steel dropped about 17% to 2.34 million mt in November, compared to October’s final count of 2.81 million mt.
An 18% drop in semifinished steel products to 612,795 mt drove much of the decline. Flat product imports also fell across the board. Hot-dip galvanized sheet and narrow strip imports fell by 39%, while hot-rolled and cold-rolled coil imports decreased by 10%.
