Japan's steel mills purchase almost 3 million tons scrap in May

Japan’s steel mill purchased almost 3 million tons of domestic scrap in May, up by 14.5 percent compared to the same time of last year. Among them. carbon steel scrap occupied 2.818 million tons, increasing by 15 percent compared to the same time of last year, when alloy scrap was 109 ,000 tons, with a 12.4 percent increase compared to the same time of last year. Pig iron scrap was 61,000 tons.
Total consumption of scrap for local steel mill was 3.897 million tons in May, up by 5.1 percent compared to the same period of last year, in which LD converter mills consumed some 951,000 tons of carbon steel scrap, 35,000 tons alloy scrap, 25,000 tons pig iron, with a 9.2 percent increase, 5.4 percent decrease and 10.7 percent decrease respectively year-on-year.
And electric furnaces consumed 2.636 million tons carbon steel scrap, 190,000 tons alloy scrap, 60,000 tons pig iron scrap with a 3.9 percent increase, 10.5 percent increase, and 4.8 percent decrease respectively.
