European die casting experts will meet at EUROGUSS in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg (Germany) 17-19 January 2012, when the some anticipated 400 exhibitors will provide information on the latest technology, processes and products. There are over 7,000 die casting experts expected to attend to use the show to prepare for investments due at the beginning of the year and look for solutions to their technical requirements. The International Die Casting Congress takes place parallel to the exhibition and for the first time in hall 7. Other highlights include the special show Research for Knowledge and the announcement of the winners of the International Aluminium Die Casting and Zinc Die Casting Competitions.
Heike Slotta, exhibition director at NürnbergMesse, is delighted with the lively flow of applications from exhibitors: “All the well-known manufacturers and die casting foundries will be there again in January. They don’t miss EUROGUSS, because it is the only event that presents the whole die casting process chain - from high-tech machine and new materials to efficient services.”
Research for Knowledge
Innovations are of crucial importance for the European die casting industry in global competition. At the new special show Research for Knowledge in hall 7, some 10 national and international research institutes, universities and universities of applied sciences are expected to present their training courses, services and current research specialisations. Participants include:
- Fraunhofer-Institut für integrierte Schaltungen IIS, Erlangen/Germany
- Hochschule Aalen together with Gießerei Technologie Aalen (GTA), Aalen/Germany
- Neue Materialien Fürth GmbH, Fürth/Germany
- TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Gießerei-Institut, Freiberg/Germany
- Lehrstuhl Werkstoffkunde und Technologie der Metalle (WTM), Erlangen/Germany
- Österreichische Giesserei-Institut, Leoben/Austria
International Die Casting Congress
The International Die Casting Congress organised by the Verband der Deutschen Druckgießereien (VDD – Association of German Die Casting Foundries) in cooperation with the Bundesverband der Deutschen Gießerei-Industrie (BDG – Federal Association of the German Die Casting Industry) focuses on dialogue between research and application. Experts meet during the three days of the exhibition to discuss innovative research findings and the advantages of technological application. The congress focuses on machine technology and moulds on Tuesday, 17 January 2012, parting agents, casting technology and product development on Wednesday, 18 January, and casting materials, smelting and casting machining on Thursday, 19 January. The International Die Casting Congress is simultaneously translated into English. Attendance is included in the admission price for the exhibition.
Zinc Die Casting Competition organized by the Zinc Initiative
Awards will be presented by the Zinc Initiative for the fourth time to exceptionally outstanding zinc die castings. The presentation takes place at the opening ceremony of EUROGUSS on the evening of 16 January 2012. The aim of the Zinc Die Casting Competition is to present the variety of applications, the outstanding properties of zinc die cast products and not least the achievements of the participating foundries.
The products entered are judged according to the following criteria: construction, design, mould, casting technology, machining, surface treatment and decorative properties. Special appreciation is given to new developments in zinc die casting and changing from other materials or manufacturing processes to zinc die casting. The jury comprises top experts. Information is available at www.zink.de
International Aluminium Die Casting Competition
The aim of the International Aluminium Die Casting Competition organised by the Verband der Aluminiumrecycling-Industrie (VAR – Association of the Aluminium Recycling Industry) and the Organisation of the European Aluminium Recycling Industry (OEA) is to show the high quality of aluminium die casting. The jury of well-known representatives from research and practice assesses casting quality, suitable casting design and the use of recycled aluminium. The three best entries will be presented with certificates at the EUROGUSS opening ceremony on 16 January 2012. Application documents are available at www.var-alurecycling.de.
Die casting sector well placed from economic aspects
The die casting sector appears to have overcome the crisis of 2008/2009 and cannot complain about the current economic situation. The Verband Deutscher Druckgießereien (VDD – Association of German Die Casting Foundries) reports a new record total turnover of €3.5 billion for 2010, compared with €3.1 billion in the boom year 2007. And according to CEMAFON (The European Foundry Equipment Suppliers Association), the member countries – Denmark, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy and Spain – exported foundry machinery worth €255 million last year, which equates to a worldwide export share of 36%. Both associations, VDD and CEMAFON, are honorary sponsors of the EUROGUSS exhibition.
