A new AFV Beltrame Group plate rolling mill was commissioned this week in Argentina by the country's President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, in the city of Villa Constitución, Santa Fe province.
The 300,000 metric tons per year heavy plate mill is the first stage of the three-stage Laminados Industriales SA steel complex.
The second stage, with no timeframe disclosed yet, includes the construction of two sections mills, with an additional production capacity of 300,000 mt/year.
“This will complete the range of commercial long products that are not produced in our country,” the Argentina government said in a statement.
The final stage, expected within five years, aims to produce slabs and billets. The mill will also have port availability of 5,000 mt to land per day, and 2,500 mt to load.
Investments figures were not disclosed.
