High costs curb Brazilian pig iron exports.

Brazil's main merchant pig iron producing region in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais is closing 2012 with poor results and a depressing forecast for 2013. The state is home to 63 pig iron producers, but only 44 of those are currently operating.
“One of the main problems in Brazil is logistics, because customers in Europe, for instance, prefer to buy from China or from another country," said one source, adding that taxes in Brazil are very expensive, which hinders the country's export potential.
