The Germany's aluminium industry association GDA said national 2013 output of primary and secondary aluminium rose 4.2 percent on the year to 1.08 million tonnes and the association is optimistic about prospects in 2014.
Aluminium demand in the building and packaging sectors will continue to grow, but growth is still expected in shipbuilding, aircraft manufacturing and public transport systems.
"Business improved in the second half of 2013 following an economically weak first half. […] Aluminium smelters, semi-finished product producers and aluminium foundries were all able to increase output," the association said.
