Better expectations about aluminium in 2015
Tweet
Global aluminium markets are expected to remain tight, world aluminium demand outside China is expected to have grown 3-4% over the course of this year and to grow by the same amount in 2015 which will lead to higher all-in metal prices and improved earnings for producers, Hydro president and CEO Svein Richard Brandtzæg said.
"Although there is still a lot of aluminium in inventories, some macro uncertainty in Europe and slight increases of semis and fabricated exports out of China, the fundamental situation is looking much better than only a year ago; in addition to demand exceeding production in the primary market, we have also seen a tightening of the raw material markets, in bauxite and alumina, representing interesting commercial opportunities, as well as pressuring the cost base for Chinese alumina and aluminium producers. Although there is still a lot of aluminium in inventories, some macro uncertainty in Europe and slight increases of semis and fabricated exports out of China, the fundamental situation is looking much better than only a year ago".
