Better expectations about aluminium in 2015
Tweet
Global aluminium markets are expected to remain tight, world aluminium demand outside China is expected to have grown 3-4% over the course of this year and to grow by the same amount in 2015 which will lead to higher all-in metal prices and improved earnings for producers, Hydro president and CEO Svein Richard Brandtzæg said.
"Although there is still a lot of aluminium in inventories, some macro uncertainty in Europe and slight increases of semis and fabricated exports out of China, the fundamental situation is looking much better than only a year ago; in addition to demand exceeding production in the primary market, we have also seen a tightening of the raw material markets, in bauxite and alumina, representing interesting commercial opportunities, as well as pressuring the cost base for Chinese alumina and aluminium producers.
