Copper pricing fell to US2.54/lb in mid January, its lowest since 31st July 2008. Copper prices have long been used as an indication of business activity. A rule of thumb is that US$3.00/lb is the break even number for red metal producers; above this and business will be good whilst below this indicates a slowdown.
