UK diecasters given new direction

The Diecasting Society has appointed a new president and praised the “sterling work” of the immediate past president.
John Paterson of Striko UK Ltd took over from Simon Hanson of HCM Engineering Ltd, who had held the position for eight years, in April.
Paterson has been involved with the society for some years and is a regular face at meetings so he is fully aware of the shoes he has to fill. “The normal tenure is two years but Simon has been president for much longer,” he said. “Simon has done an excellent job of promoting the benefits of the society and bringing together a proactive council who have steered the society to a much improved position. We are no longer seen as a social organisation, we are now regarded as a professional body supporting and promoting our industry. We host several excellent technical visits during the year, which are well supported by our members.”
Hinson will continue to be involved and will support the new president as he further develops the society, which currently has 71 members, including diecasters and supply companies.
Paterson says he is particularly optimistic about the future: “We are moving into a strong period of growth and last year saw major investment taking place with over ten diecasting machines being ordered throughout the UK along with substantial orders for machining centres and other equipment being placed.
“The Diecasting Society goals shall remain strongly focused on increasing membership through spreading technical knowledge to our members, combined with training days in which we are keen to co-operate with the ICME (where the society secretariat is based) where possible.”
