Essen-based Dihag Holding (www.dihag.com) and Royal IHC (www.ihcmerwede.com) have formed a joint venture to take over (on a 60:40 basis) Allard-Europe (allard-europe.be), a Belgian steel and iron foundry.
Dihag is the leading foundry group in Europe; Royal IHC specialises in ship-building and equipment for maritime construction.
The Allard-Europe NV steel and iron foundry in Turnhout was established in 1920; it specialises in wear-resistant materials and primarily manufactures products for the offshore, dredging, ship-building and energy sectors. It can produce special castings weighing up to 40 tonnes and has annual sales of around 25 million euros.
Dihag Holding technical director Stefan Mettler said: “With the Allard-Europe take-over, we are strengthening our position in Europe and adding high-quality materials to our portfolio. The joint venture with Royal IHC will allow
us to enter new industries and target markets in the area of sub-sea construction.”
Sander Korving, director (supply-chain management) at Royal IHC, said: Dihag Holding brings technical expertise from foundry pro-cesses to the table, and they are thus the right partner for us to continue to develop materials for our demanding market.”
