More Than 90 Percent of All End-of-Life Auto Aluminum is Recovered and Recycled

In a new study, commissioned by the Aluminum Association, researchers with the Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Metal Processing Institute, home of the Center for Resource Recovery and Recycling (CR3), conclude the end-of-life recycling rate for automotive aluminum in the United States is 91 percent.
This new peer-reviewed quantitative study is the most comprehensive understanding of end-of-life automotive aluminum recycling to date, adding to the list of government and auto industry studies that confirm aluminum is the most sustainable choice for the environment—from fuel economy to full life cycle emissions to recycling.
