JSW USA Restarts Ohio Mill, Expects to Create 1,000 Jobs

JSW USA has officially restarted its facility in Mingo Junction, Ohio. After being idle for 3,545 days, it is now a melt and manufacture mill. The reopening of the mill is expected to create 1,000 jobs. The first slab on its electric-arc furnace (EAF) was cast on Dec. 14. Now that the facility will be melting its own steel, JSW USA will be more cost effective and ensure the highest quality for customers. The company is already in the design process to install another EAF at Mingo Junction.

As JSW USA works toward its goal of being completely melt and manufacture, the company has filed for a limited duration exclusion on the import of 10-inch and 12-inch slabs and API grades of steel that are not available in the U.S. However, three U.S. mills have filed objections to JSW USA’s requests for exclusion. The U.S. Department of Commerce has not yet made a decision on JSW’s exclusion request.

Once the company completes both of the EAFs in Ohio and a third in Texas, JSW USA will become a 3-million-ton flat-roll mill, a 1-million-ton plate mill and a 500,000-ton pipe mill.
