Slow recovery for the Italian mechanical sector.

The confidence index improves for a sample of 420 firms of the Italian mechanical sector. The second quarter 2010 short-term survey, carried out by ANIMA/Confindustria's Study Office, reports a consolidation of the confidence climate started during the first quarter of this year. 44% of the enterprises think the turnover may increase over the short term while only 15% expects a worsening and 41% doesn't expect changes.
Investments and employment as well as order books will remain substantially the same over the previous quarter.
“Our companies, that account for 50% of our country's trade balance exceeding by far the food, fashion and design sectors, are pursuing the upswing under way in other countries while Italy is still standing unchanged”, maintains Sandro Bonomi, President of ANIMA. “A strong and immediate support to the domestic industrial sector is urgently required from the government that consists first of all in preserving the aid measures applied over the last few years such as the 55% allowance on investments in high-efficiency technologies.
As always at wintertime, we are afraid of nasty surprises for what concerns the power supplies. We'd prefer to do without. We welcome with great relief the installation of the new Minister for the Economic Development, and we wish MP Romani good work. Nowadays more than even, our firms need great support, in particular as regards the simplification of law-making and bureaucratic processes, the innovation facilities and the promotion of made-in-Italy mechanics”.
