BOSCH WANTS TO CLOSE THREE FOUNDRIES

As reported by the Hessischer Rundfunk and the Wirtschaftswoche, the automotive supplier Bosch is looking into the sale of its brake disc production at three locations in Hessen. According to the company, it concerns about 900 employees in the foundries in Breidenbach, Biedenkopf-Ludwigshütte and Lollar.

Bosch argued that the production hardly offered any synergies with existing business areas, while massive resistance was already building up in the IG Metall trade union.

In addition, the union said, this announcement shortly before the plant holidays was bad form, with workers and trade unionists not understanding the management's approach.

The reference to the transformation in the automotive industry towards electric mobility cannot be an argument, since these vehicles also need braking systems.

In any case, a major labour dispute is already on the horizon and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the foundries. According to reports, there are already interested parties on the market, who want to produce braking systems also in the future.
