Business is picking up with casting output and order books set to recover this year, but it will take two to three years for the heady 2008 production levels to be reached again, say member countries of the World Foundry Organization.
Speaking at the WFO General Assembly held during the 69th World Foundry Congress in Hangzhou, China last month, member associations reported that the economic crisis had resulted in rationalisation and re-evaluation but that, although slow, things were improving. The 25 member associations also pinpointed a skills gap and training problems as the most critical threat to the global foundry industry.
